Barnabas, the children’s branch of Bible Reading Fellowship, always seem to be thinking the same way that I am – or maybe I am thinking the same way that they do! Whatever, there is a great feature article this month on their website by Alison Harris, who is one of their workers who is particularly involved with pre school aged children. Its called Beyond Sacred Babysitting and has lots of points to think about as we consider how to have children as an integral part of the body of Christ. They are at www.barnabasinchurches.org.uk, and its the feature of the month. There is tons of stuff to read and it is my number one favourite website to point all of our kids workers to if they ask me for ideas.
I wonder increasingly how much we, the adults, miss out on some of what God intends for the whole body when we don’t include and expect the children to be in touch with him and him speaking to us all through children in prophecy, dreams, words and prayer. My understanding of so much of Jesus life, his words and his works, his death and his resurrection and his ongoing presence is most tested and whittled down to what really matters when a three year old asks me a question about God. And my faith is most encouraged and built up when I spend time with people who ‘hear God’ – no questions asked… and they tend to peak at about three too!
